Concrete Repairs - Case Study
Thames Water - Borden, Hampshire
Installation overview
The workshop building at the water treatment works had precast concrete sectional guttering with rain water outlets at each end of the building. Each end outlet section had degraded badly with most of the reinforcement visible. The sections were no longer available so rebuilding of the section was the only remedial option as the cost to replace the gutter was outside the maintenance budgets.
Special considerations
Due to the age and frailty of the gutter only insitu repairs could be considered. Traditional cementitious repair mortars were ruled out due to the product weight and requirement of shuttering to support the mortar whilst curing.
A lightweight repair mortar was required that required no shuttering and with selected primers adhered firmly to the existing concrete and coated the reinforcing bars to prevent further oxidisation.
Why ERS was selected
As specialist in resin mortars and repair systems, ERS was approached to survey and specify a concrete repair mortar that fully met the specification.
ERS carried out a full survey and forwarded a full report, specification and product recommendations. Within a week the repairs were carried out the gutter lined with a liquid water proof membrane and put back into full service well under budget.
